The Consequence of Being "FAKE"
One of my friends saw the news of Trump not leaving the White House on Instagram. He immediately started to create memes and posted on all his social media. He thought he would get all the likes and retweets. Yet, everybody just commented 'FAKE' below his post, and he is still so embarrassed until now. HA, shame on him.
Who knows if the same issue will happen to you? Let's prevent it by continuing reading below:
What Happened?
After Donald Trump has lost in the United States election 2020, there are tons of posts regarding this issue on social media.
On Instagram, a page called TextPosts.Beans, posted a screen capture of a Tweet and a video on November 8, 2020 (TextPosts.Beans, 2020). The source of the video is not mentioned. In the photo (the Tweet), it says that “they need to livestream it”, while retweeting news from a popular site, called BallerAlert, with hundreds of thousands of followers. The information retweeted is about a law enforcing Trump to leave if he has lost the election. Then, the video of the Instagram post shows a Trump-look-alike man throwing a tantrum on the ground and yelling. It seems like the post is projecting that Trump did not want to leave White House and had behaved like a child on the floor after losing the election.

In the comments, we can see that many followers love to watch this news, and some of them would even “pay to watch that”. Many comments are laughing at the “childish behaviour of Trump”. Some of them may have questioned if the video was real, but not many of them had fact-checked and told everyone the result. Even if someone says that the video is fake, those comments are not the popular ones and have only got few likes and replies. So, is this incident real?

Is It Real News or Fake News?
Let’s refer to the 5 characteristics of fake news.
First, the source of the video cannot be verified because there are no links to trace.
It is also a bit emotional, at least eye-catching since it is an extremely abnormal behaviour of a president. Pro-Trump followers may be disappointed and annoyed. In contrast, the anti-Trump ones may be happy to see these rumours and negative news.
It is hard to find a source introducing the authors’ backgrounds of the page. Although it has almost 70 thousands followers, the content doesn’t seem to be produced by professional journalists. The page even calls itself as a “dumb b**** club”.
It is also challenging to find the original video elsewhere.
The page comes from Instagram, but it doesn’t call itself as a news site. Also, it does not have an Instagram verified badge to prove its authenticity.
Thus, the post has all the characteristics of fake news. We can quickly identify it as a piece of fake news.
